Formada em 1987, a inconstante formação do Forcefield reuniu alguns dos nomes das maiores bandas de rock dos anos 80. Os membros originais foram Pete Prescott, Ray Fenwick e Cozy Powell. Fenwick já havia sido guitarrista da The Spencer Davis Group , da Fancy e da The Ian Gillan Band, enquanto que o baterista Powell já participara de bandas do calibre de Black Sabbath, Rainbow e Whitesnake e é lembrado até hoje como um dos grandes nomes do rock. Prescott se juntou à formação da banda logo após ter deixado o posto de vocalista da Sergent. O álbum de estreia “Forcefield” consistiu em releituras de clássicos do rock como Smoke on the Water, do Deep Purple, Set me Free, do The Kinks e Sunshine of Your Love, do Cream, misturados a material original. 

A banda então lançou quatro discos pelo selo President – “Forcefield II: The Talisman”, “Forcefield III: To Oz and Back”, “Forcefield IV: Let The Wild Run Free” e a compilação “Instrumentals”. O vocalista do Black Sabbath Tony Martin assumiu os vocais para o Forcefield II e então ele mesmo passou o posto para o antigo frontman do Rainbow Graham Bonnet para os dois últimos lançamentos. Outra grande adição para esses últimos trabalhos foi o guitarrista holandês Jan Akkerman, o qual já possuía grande fama internacional pelo seu trabalho na banda Focus. 

Os álbuns também continham o trabalho de numerosos outros bem conhecidos artistas do rock dos anos 80. Neil Murray, Don Airey, Mick Moody, Bernie Marsden, Mario Parga e Mo Foster emprestaram seu talento para a banda ao longo de sua carreira de gravações. 

Junto com o lançamento de Forcefield IV, Bonnet também lançou o álbum solo “Here Comes The Night” para o selo Presidente, outra amostra de seu virtuoso talento vocal. 

Infelizmente, Cozy Powell faleceu tragicamente em um acidente de carro em 1998. Forcefield foi um dos últimos projetos no qual ele esteve envolvido e mostrou virtuosas performances de seu grande talento. Texto: Danilo Lopes.
